Thanks for that idea Peter, I think we may do something with stockrooms as
it will show exactly what stock the reps have, and we can adjust them back
to stock when they get returned.

BTW Jeff we do get the Simpsons here - they played the one with Tony Blair
on Friday - very funny!

Analysis/Forecasting

This may be overkill but...

If you used DRP, and set up each salesman as a 'depot' or stockroom, you
would have a mechanism for salesmen to order stock for samples (pull or
push), have it allocated, picked and dispatched as any other order, but
not
invoiced so no Sales Analysis update.

However salesmen would have to confirm receipt into their stockroom (more
work but maybe a useful control?), and issue samples from their stockroom
(bulk for month or by customer - again maybe useful info?), again no
invoice.

Good answer... Nice creative thinking outside the box...

You could also ship out the Sample Parts under a different part number and

flag that "S" part to not update Sales Analysis...

However, you would be required to manually move the inventory from
production part to "S" part...

It's difficult to imagine giving away that many samples as to have that
big
an impact on the forecast... Either they're giving away the store or
they're not selling very much or profit margins are really tight or some
combination of all three...

Correction to my original post, I said "less painless" and I meant to say
"less painful"...

Maybe you could use a kit part parent which has the child part you
require,
at zero invoice value but with the sales analysis flag set not to update
sales analysis?
