No way - definitely not thick - you caught on real quick...
But now you're pushing my feeble brain capabilities =)

We did all of this analysis over 3 years ago - I am not sure why using 1
in the C column is how we chose to set up the codes - but I feel it has
to do with the "suggestions" of canceling orders. When you are in review
MRP - flip back and forth between the MRP and SUP screens that may be
where there is a difference for items coded with 1 or 0.

Maybeeee...The best thing to do is run with the two scenarios in test for
a while and see which works best for your folks.

Anyone else have any input?

Now I am confused, so please forgive me if I am being thick

I set the code to 000 00 and it appears to be working OK for scheduled
orders on code 12, no cancels and it is putting in SP's as required

I thought that the 3rd digit where you suggest 1 is the digit that allows
cancels

If you can clear this confusion for me I would be grateful

Andrew

Yes and no.
I know everyone recommends using a "4" but that won't stop the system from
"changing" firm orders.
The code needs to be 001 00, (and this may be a little overkill but...)
create the "V" code for 11, 12, 13, 14 and 19.

This should prevent the system from changing any Firm order lines but you
should have the capability to make changes in VS based on the MRP
suggestions if that is what the planner desires.

Let me know how that goes.

Michele

O.K. I will try to be as brief as possible...

The filter I am referring to, is defined in Production Definition
Management, Utilities, Maintain Parameters - System parameters - WTYP.
These are three character fields, with the last character being the
"filter code" that will be used on the item's production details field
labeled "MPS/MRP filter".
Let's take as an example, parameter code - 11 Purchase order - this
code should have no restrictions remember the last character is the code -
therefore "blank" is a code. Create a code - 11A Purchase order (VS) -
with the restrictions you require, such as no cancellations, then simply
flag all VS scheduled items that you wish not to be changed, with an A in
the filter field.

Essentially - there are various transactions, such as purchase orders,
work orders, production schedules and vendor schedules that can be
refined using filters. Refinements such as; no change to quantities or
dates unless a certain percentage has been exceeded, or falls within a
specified time frame, or no change at all. These filter codes affect the
planning of the item, so if you create a code in WTYP that prevents
changes to firm orders, and assign that code to a VS item, you prevent
changes in VS since VS simply pulls from the MPS and/or MRP plan.

We hated time fences because we have 7 planners releasing schedules as
needed - plus we wanted to be able to "see" the changes and resulting
system suggestions in MPS/MRP. Filters work for us.

Please feel free to contact me with questions or if I can be of assistance
- it sounds worse than it really is!

We are heavy VS users and I would like to understand what you are
explaining
here,

we protect our orders by using the MRP timefence and a 4 week cycle on
release so that the Firm VS requirements have all moved inside the MRP
timefence by the next release

Yes. The only way that I am aware of, is by defining a filter and
assigning the code to the item # that you want to control.
There may be other ways - I'd like to see what other users have to say (an
easier way?), so rather than get into detail here, let me know later if
you need more information.

S21: V2.4 SP2.4

Module: VS

Topic: Locking Vendor Schedules in VS

Is there a way to lock schedules created in vendor scheduling where JBA
will
not alter specific line. This would be like/similar to the time fence
option
in MRP where you can specify the JBA does not modify or suggest a change
to
existing MRP schedules.

I am looking for a way to stop vendor scheduling from changing a schedule
already made inside of the next 14 days.

Thank you
