If it is external use only you could use the INP38 Alternative Item number
36A field

Internally you're screwed.  You're better off installing new software, JD
Edwards supports internally 30 characters.  If it is only Customer Parts
numbers you seek, consider Future 3 for example which supports 30 characters
externally.

Currently we are limited to 15 characters in the part field. We have a need
to expand this to 30 characters. Can anyone tell me the issues and pitfalls
associated with this?
