During my Good Old Consulting days this is what we did for a company that wanted 30 character Part Number. We used the Item description field as the part number and suitably modified the Item search to search by part description and mask all Screens to show Descriptions instead of part number. The actual part number was set as an auto generated reference number. All the forms and report should be ok as they print the descriptions anyway and the actual descriptions were entered in the External text. We settled for this because this was only way to get away from making any database changes and we were using only the Distribution part of JBA so it was less complicated. Bottom line it was not an easy mod. Hope this helps Ram S.
