All,

The local reseller of S21 here is having a tiff with GEAC and we are being
asked to choose between them (GEAC) and the reseller for our facilities
management for next year. Can anyone tell me how good (or bad) their service
is?

I think you will get a mixed response to this question from the group
based on their experience in a number of areas. It may be useful if
contributors stated if they still use Customer Service (i.e. they are on
maintenance) and if not how long ago they last used it. That way you will
be better able to assess the current situation along with the woes of the
past. I'm not sure that anyone can really comment on experience of
facilities management as this may be a new venture for Geac in the Sys21
arena. Certainly Geac has the infrastructure of a world-wide network of
AS/400s and servers, so you would expect some expertise there.

Myself, I'm an ex JBAer of 15 years experience now working for a customer
Tandy Brands who has recently renewed maintenance with Geac. We have a
'history' with JBA but are happy so far with what we are getting from CS.
Sometimes there are hiccups, but there seems to be a genuine willingness
to help.

I'm sure I'll get 'ribbed' by some of my fellow ex-JBAers for this (I'm
ready and waiting Paul & Stefan) but all opinions should be heard.

Richard

RE: A/R Allocations

Richard, if my memory serves me correctly, the CIND15 is set during the
statement run (when Update Cleared Items is set).
AND, there is a difference between Advanced Cash and Classic when it comes
to the CIND15.
Advanced Cash will not show items that have a CIND15 = 'C' where Classic
will as long as the value is not zero. (I may have this around the wrong
way)
I don't think you can allocate the JL to the IN but it is worth a try.

Otherwise DFU is the answer.

Re: Customer Service.
Being an ex-JBA'er myself I understand the position the Sys/21 people are
in. Many do try and provide customer service, however, days are a fixed
length of hours and they are trying to justify their existence (they may be
next to go).

Re: Posting Police....
Seasons Greetings, I wish you all a happy and safe new year, especially the
GEAC comrades past and present. Yes even you Lesley, Jim & John!!!

Ps. Some like to remain clandestine so that they can provide assistance in
real life.

Regards

I believe if you change the cleared indicator these items will be
available in Cash allocation and you will be able to adjust these back to
zero. If I am correct this will be less risky than using DFU/DBU to
correct the detail.

Sometimes I feel embarrassed that I don't know
something I think I "should" and I feel safer posting
this way. It has nothing to do with posting police.

I often believe that what is obvious to some is not to
others and the others might benefit from the asking.
In this instance I was hoping to benefit the others by
way of the asking.

I wish you all the peace of the season.

GEAC have just sent me a 'Preparation for (2002 31/12/02) year end'
processing document which covers the correct 'Best practice' procedures and
also recommended system checks if any one would like a copy.

Hello Everyone,

Following on from the previous emailer's comments about sharing knowledge,
would anyone like a copy of my reconciliation queries? I have successfully
used them to balance my ledgers.

The JBA Consultant alias re routes this list's emails to its own inbox on my
PC.

Seasons Greetings.

Marcus Simpson.
