Problem 1 - we had something very similar and it took a long time to
isolate it.  The problem/fix related in-part to use of a piece of
Security software.  We found it was down to a setting on the 400, and
the following solved our problem. (As with any system settings change,
please ensure you are happy with the background and consequences before
going ahead.)

".......There is a known problem with IBM's V4R4 PTF SF63100 and higher,
including OS/400 V4R5. This is due to an engineering change in OS/400
that permanently changes the way certain server functions work. Note:
the IBM PMR# you can reference is: 27094-180.

After you install the corrective PTF (or upgrade to OS/400 V4R5), you
must also change the prestart setup for job QZDASOINIT in your QSERVER
subsystem. To do this, process the following commands:

CHGPJE SBSD(QSERVER) PGM(QIWS/QZDASOINIT) MAXUSE(1)
CHGPJE SBSD(QSERVER) PGM(QIWS/QZDASSINIT) MAXUSE(1)
CHGPJE SBSD(QSERVER) PGM(QIWS/QZDAINIT) MAXUSE(1)

Problem 2 - wish I knew

Problem 3 - set the CA connection option on the PC to "prompt as
needed", not "always prompt"

Not strictly on topic I know but there may be some expertise out there.

I am using CA v5.1 with latest service pack, having added the data
transfer add-in to excel I have started to use this and I am having
problems.

1/ On first use the spreadsheet window hangs and has to be terminated
using task manager. on second use it runs fine, on third use and
subsequent alternate usages it hangs. This pattern is maintained
irrespective of use of the Excel or CA desktop interfaces.

2/ Although it quite easy to compose, save and run a query when one
opens the query again in spreadsheet it runs immediately without giving
the opportunity to amend it. A work around it to open it in the CA
interface, amend it, save it and then run it again in Excel. Question:
is there a way to open the compose/amend dialogue in a spreadsheet
without the query running?

3/ Even though the user has a CA session open the prompt for username
and password crops up every time you open or run the query. Question: is
there a way to avoid this?

The first point is clearly the most irritating, have you experienced any
of these problems and can you advise me?
