Off hand I can't see too much of a problem here - if
your 'internally generated' orders started from
0000001 and the externally created from say 5000001
you'd be OK (until you created more than 5 million
orders from either source!).

Word of caution: although the order number is defined
in the database as alpha, in practice it's only ever
numeric in vanilla JBA. I'd be careful about
introducing an alpha prefix, there may be places where
the field is treated as numeric eg to eliminate
leading zeroes.

Also there may be reports which run on a range of
order numbers - you'd be looking at two ranges.

As always I'd run this through a test environment
first.
