Thanks for the response.

O.K., we've come this far - now let's venture a little further out on the
limb...

Since I am not technologically enlightened, I could use some  "off the top
of your head" estimates from this group as to the difficulty and/or cost
of a modification such as this?

Ok, you're not crazy.  But I'm just a consultant.  I say a case can be
made for this being a JIT approach to materials.  I have a client who does
something similar.  From a system side I do vote for having the mod add a
line to the existing PO, then bringing up the receipt screen for normal
processing from that point on.  Just off the top of my head.
