Hi Jim

Very timely question. I was going to post the below experience this week
anyway.

We just went through this process in Australia in preparation to upgrading
hardware to 820. We had an IBM supplied 820 with same serial number on
processsor and the blessing of JBA to do some testing on it. We are still
on V3.5.1. We tested all processes on the 820/V5R1 combo and couldn't kill
anything. However, when we actually moved our OS up from V4R4 to V5R1 on
our current 720 it was PTF'd and somehow differed slightly from the IBM
preload version. Only problems encountered were in Receiving and amending
PO but they defied all attempts to solve them and were very erratic
failures. After Monday and Tuesday being a total wipeout we started
Wednesday with an IBM supplied PTF (26995) and an IBM suggested change to
SYSVAL QQRYDEGREE from *OPTIMIZE to *NONE. We processed happily for Wed,
Thur, Fri and Sat but we had same failures again Monday. IBM here in
Australia ended up getting onto someone in Rochester to assist with sorting
out this issue and finally, at midnight Sunday, Minnesota time, they came
up with workaround. We have simply journaled PMP03 and evrything is ticking
along nicely. IBM are still working on PTF for problem but in the mean time
everything looks OK.

Just goes to show that no matter how exhaustively you test everything there
will always be one little thing that you could not have allowed for!

Lets hope this is another instance where we can learn from each others
experiences

BR

Rick

Subject: JBA MLAny problems upgrading to V5R1?

We are using JBA here, and are wanting to upgrade to V5R1, the OS media is
sitting in a box in the IS department.

Has anyone using JBA upgraded to V5R1, and if so, any problems?

Thanks.
