We submitted the same problem to Geac Support. There is no function in
System 21 that lets you mark an item as obsolete. Some customers put some
text indicator on the item description so it will be noticed but that does
not prevent the system from ordering, scheduling or selling the item. We
even went so far as to want to delete the item but that function does not
work in System 21 either. I'm was told the delete function is being
re-written in SP6. We tried must of the fields in the item, stock room &
production detail but none seem to do want we wanted. Wish that I had good
news, maybe some one found a way or made a mod. Good luck.

Subject: Obsolete purchased items

We have the situation where, when a purchased part is changed or becomes
obsolete, we would like to prevent anyone from accidentally creating an
order
for it.

There is an effective date range in the parts file, but purchasing order
entry
apparently does not reference it. There doesn't seem to be any program
edit
(or corresponding field) to indicate that it isn't OK to order this anymore.

Is anyone aware of functionality we're overlooking? We are using the style
distribution system, if that makes a difference. Thanks in advance,

Richard Evans
