Hi Gilbert,

Unfortunately, that has long been the IBM model, and JBA/Geac have just
followed suit.

If you upgrade your AS/400 you will not only have to pay additional fees to
Geac, but IBM will charge you more for OS/400 too.  (Someone please correct
me if this pricing policy has changed.)

You will also find that many 3rd party tools are tied to processor serial
numbers & performance factors too.

Technically, you are paying for Total Capacity.....not Utilization.   You
could do more, so you have to pay more...

In a disaster situation, you will find that most Vendors (even IBM) will be
very flexible with you, especially if a comparable model is no longer
available.  I would not expect 'free', but you might get lucky.
