I thought this was common knowledge and has been posted before. With our
source code we got an insert that said it was to be accessed only by our
company personnel with a "need to know" and Geac. What is in question is
how serious they are about enforcing this. It isn't an issue for us since
we don't use any 3rd parties, but certainly it affects lots of companies. I
would guess most any software contracts "Intellectual Property" clause could
be construed to protect source code, but I bet Geac wouldn't win in court
based upon their past practices and how out of sync this is with the rest of
the industry.

Subject: Source Code rumor

I was asked to post this without naming the source. Can anyone confirm or
dispell this rumor?

In the UK GEAC are also starting to restrict the availability of source
code. Only sites with a contractual right to source will get it.

If that isn't bad enough, they are now seeking to enforce part of their
contract where they allegedly have the right to restrict what you can do
with the source (should you be fortunate enough to have it in the first
place). I understand this will be along the following lines:- Direct
employees of a user may change the source. A third party may not unless you
first get permission from GEAC. The request to GEAC for permission must
stipulate who the third party is.
