The Technical reference is included with JBA Explorer (June 1999
edition)...
And I agree that this a very powerful tool... My spot checks did indicate
a high measure of reliability in the data contained therein...

This sounds like an extremely large and difficult task... It makes me
cringe just thinking about having to do it... This is one reason why I
never liked the idea of having our part numbers too rigidly defined... I
understand the value of having intelligence built into the numbering scheme
and this scenario speaks loudly to building in some flexibility too...

Good luck.

If you want to look at all the fields, use the JBA Technical Reference
database. It's in MS Access format and includes every field in the system
and how it's used. I can't vouch for the accuracy of the information, but
if it is complete, this is an awesome tool that hasn't been pushed enough
by
JBA. They include certain front end Access programs to use the data, but
if
you're familiar at all with Access you can do much more. You do have to
ask
JBA to get this, but at one time it was free of charge.
