  • Subject: Year 2000 bug in the Standing Journal Reversal Program (32/GLP)

To All

We have uncovered a year 2000 bug in the Standing Journal Reversal Program
(menu option 32/GLP). When posting a journal using this program, G/L
transactions are written to file FLP008 with the wrong period number. For
example: If you specify a reversal period of 0001 to represent year 2000
period 01, the G/L transactions get written to the file as 00001. This is
incorrect, it should be writing a value of 10001.

When the program performs the updating of the period balances (FLP004),
everything is posts okay. Therefore, most of the reports like the trial
balance and the profit and loss will be correct. It is when you report the
value of the transactions, or do a general ledger consolidation, or export the
transactions to another system, or try to rebuild the period balances will you
encounter major problems trying to balance year 2000 periods.

To find out if this affects you, perform the following Query:

        Select file: doctrans or FLP008
Selection: cono = 'xx' and txsrce = 'G' and tt = 'RS' and pstper <
00012

(where xx is your live company code)

JBA are working on an emergency fix for this program (Fix number EFV3 0015). I
would suggest to all the system support staff to disable this option until they
get the fix from JBA .

To the best of our knowledge this information is correct and up to date. I
would like to thank Colin Ross colin@clan-ross.demon.co.uk for his help in
identifying and fixing the data problems on our system.

Give it a try and let us know what you think!

I thought JBA was year 2000 compliant?
