Hi Jon,

Thank you for replying to my post!

I have been a Lotus Notes developer for close to 20 years, so I do not really know other stuff.

I learned PHP, .Net, javascript/Jquery, HTML, CSS, SQL over the years.

Why is it so difficult to find an easy to follow RPG book? DO you know of any good tutorial?

My boss is old school so for now I want to learn RPG LE ( I think it is) but after I would like to move to free format or whatever it is called.

The very fact that the first book has “AS/400” in the title shows that it is at least 15+ years out-of-date.

Same (but not quite as bad) for the Meyers/Yaeger book. That was the original version (from 21 years ago maybe?) has been completely re-written in recent years - the latest version is this one I think: https://www.amazon.com/Programming-RPG-IV-Jim-Buck/dp/1583473556

That book is intended as the textbook for a college level RPG IV class. If you already know another programming language then it is not really aimed at you.

If you could tell us what you currently know (beyond Lotus Notes which is kinda difficult to compare to anything really) then it would be easier to make recommendations.

Friends,

I am new to this forum and new to RPG.

I have many years experience with Lotus Notes and web development.

Recently my company wants me to learn RPG on Power 7.

My manager is teaching basic RPG stuff, but I would like to take a step further and also learn on my own.

I
did a quick search on the discussion forum here and did not find what I
was looking for. (Maybe I need to spend a little more time?)

Anyways, I was wondering if someone could recommend some good tutorials online or something.

I
have a couple of books but they are difficult to read compare to other
computer base books. (RPG IV programming on the AS/400 - Stanley E.
Meyers and Programming in RPG IV - Bryan Meyers and Judy Yaeger)

I discovered www.as400online.com Does anyone know if that would be a good start?

Thanks in advance,

Marc
