No argument - but I was merely pointing out that arbitrarily discussing compatibility without knowing what the OP was using to render the sheet was somewhat pointless. I have not tried the Excel version for iOS but would expect it to do better than Apple’s Numbers - and that does a halfway decent job.

Perhaps it is worth asking exactly _what_ is being used to view the spreadsheet on the iPhone. Didn’t MS introduce free iOS versions of their tools a while back?

Yup - says he answering himself - https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/microsoft-excel/id586683407?mt=8

I would think that that went well beyond being a viewer. Apple Numbers on the iPhone should also work.

There's more to Excel support than just being a full-featured
spreadsheet program. As I just explained, reading, parsing, and
calculating Excel formulas is highly nontrivial. This remains true no
matter how much other functionality you have. It may well be that
Apple Numbers is a wonderful product, and that if you start off with
Numbers and create native Numbers files and never touch Excel, you
will be a very happy spreadsheet camper. That doesn't mean Numbers
will necessarily do a good job opening an Excel file.

Also, I'd like to note that an iOS version of an app isn't necessarily
as capable or full-featured as the OS X version of that app.
