If array is dynamic, based on a pointer it is simple.

Example;

dcl-ds TD_Order Qualified Template;
OrderNumber Int(20);
OrderDate Date;
LineCount Int(10);
end-ds;

dcl-ds Orders LikeDs(TD_Order) Dim(32766) Based(ptrOrders);

32766 is the SQL Limit for arrays.

You could just allocate enough storage for say 1000 records or you you
could dynamically allocate.

When you do fetch you just point at the start of the array and you records
will be loaded into the beginning of the array.

On the next load,

ptrOrder = ptrSavePosition + (LoadPosition - 1) * %Size(TD_Order);

Now when you fetch in again you will be loading at that position in the
array.

I have a storage manager that does exactly that.

SQL doesn't care what memory you are pointing to. I commonly use User
Spaces so I don't even hit memory.

Why not just fetch all 1000 at once?

c/exec sql
c+ fetch myCursor for 1000 rows
c+ into :myOccursDS
c/end-exec

c eval wNumRowsRtn = SQLERRD(3)

It surprises me what gems there are with SQL. Perhaps there is another
one
I haven't found?

I have a cursor which fetches rows, up to 50 or so, and stores them in a
host variable data structure. The fetch happens several times, from 1 to
say, 40. I would like each subsequent fetch to append the fetched rows
at
the end of the previous fetch. When done, I would like a single host
variable data structure with up to a thousand or so rows.

Is this reasonably possible?
