That redbook is a great choice to read. There are quite a few other
redbooks out there that are excellent reads for DB2 on i. Search through
IBM's redbook site at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/

I also just recently found there are some very good videos from IBM (and
likely others) on youtube. Do a google search of

"ibm i" db2 site:youtube.com

Modernizing a heritage system with SQL should not be about replacing RPG
I/O with single row SQL fetch statements. You want to incorporate design
improvements at the same time, incrementally at your pace, that leverage
SQL's advanced abilities.

manual. Had to learn RPG that way 40+ years ago. That said, I am
surprised
that I have not seen Birgitta and Company's Redbook mentioned. I found it
(for me) an excellent place to get started.
