I put oBatch into another procedure as well as into the mainline, each with different definitions, and the SQL precompiler didn't have a problem with getBatchNo's oBatch. I've had more than one frustrating experience with the SQL precompiler
giving me wild geese to chase. It seems that under certain
circumstances, the precompiler will throw an error that seems utterly
unrelated to the code it is indicating. Of course that's a cascade from
some /other/ error that for whatever reason is syntatically legal but
logically incorrect.

Try RPGPPOPT(*LVL1) and look at the spooled file this creates.
Sometimes that gives me a clue as to where the actual error is.
Sometimes, I've had to resort to Luis' advice and comment out all of the
SQL and let the RPG compiler diagnose the real error.
