I'm afraid that I don't have an answer to your particular question but,
regarding SQL style, Are you aware that the following construct is valid?

EXEC SQL
SET :obatch = (((year(current_date) - 1900) * 1000)
+ dayofyear(current_date)) * 100 + 1 ;


Again, sorry couldn't help you with your particular problem. As our old 520
is *far* behind in its OS version, all I can tell you is that (for me), it
looks OK...
