Yes, I understood that. The question to hand is this:
Are you designing something new or prototyping something that is already
in existence? The point of my question being that you might be making a
prototyping error (ie using EXTPGM where you want EXTPROC) or you might
be misunderstanding how a *PGM 'returns' a value to a caller.

I'm guessing that you are creating something new. If you really are
going to use this subprocedure in just this one place, why not put it
there, within PGMA? One doesn't need a service program to use
subprocedures - drop the EXTPROC and put the PI within the same source
as the PR (ie PGMA) and that should handle the situation (as I
understand it, anyway).
