Hi Dan

What you want to do can be done in C, where you can do an assignment and nest it in a condition in the same statement.

In RPG you can't nest things this way - but you might try just using the expression, as here - unless you need p in the body of the DOW - and I like keeping the extra layer of parentheses, to keep things organized!!

Dow (%scan( '~' : SPdetl : PosLastDelim + 1) > 0);

I am attempting to combine
1) p = %scan( '~' : SPdetl : PosLastDelim + 1);

2) Dow p > 0;
into:
Dow (p = %scan( '~' : SPdetl : PosLastDelim + 1)) > 0;

But this generates RNF7421 "Operands are not compatible with the type of
operator."

Is it because left side of the '>' translates to an indicator?
