Granted that neither DSPJRN not the DISPLAY_JOURNAL service will parse the data - as for prompting, well, do you expect prompting for other SQL activities? At the level of IBM i commands? I know that I don't.

So one does need tools - the SQL service, I think, could be used very nicely to build such tools, and you have all the selectivity of SQL against the result set. It will give you the before and after images just as DSPJRN will, albeit in raw form, which you need to be made readable - as do we all, right?

Cheers
Vern

BTW Vern, renaming Oops Nerv to something else doesn’t add any value to the customers. Name me outdated, I’m needing tools and no toys! Regarding the UDTF to display Journal data, I’m not seeing any benefit compared to DSPJRN. DSPJRN is by far easier to use with all it’s prompting and what I’m missing is: I need the contents of the before and after images in a readable presentation and the ability to analize the images with SQL – and for this you have to develop your own tools (or some open source and freeware, as provided by some guys, including me).
