Yes, we have a web page for marketing and advertising (and product
delivery, support, etc).

But we also don't advertise other products besides our own (except for one,
but that's because I know the author and the product and it uses one of our
products as part of it). And that's just a small banner ad on one page.

Our site doesn't use these HUGE libraries, or get content for advertising
from other sites, use pop ups, or any of the other annoying things the
article speaks of. In fact, our page seems to load rather quickly and is
hosted on our own IBM i (unlike most ISVs).

I've thought about putting some ads on our site, and turned down many
offers from others. But, in the end, it's pennies and I think devalues the
worth of what we have to offer.

With blogs and news sites, that's all they offer is the media itself. And
no one pays for that so they almost have to advertise.

Even weather.com is getting terrible with this and all of their "click
bait" videos that litter 3/4ths of the page.

So really, apples and potatoes comparison.

Brad,

As the article implies, every company has web pages for at least
advertising and marketing purposes (even www.bvstools.com ) :). For most
companies a web presence is a must.

And every company needs income. Those ads can be very enticing for a
business; some might say addicting.

What I found most interesting was the concept of ad revenue eclipsing
product revenue.
