RDi is vastly over priced, compared to Microsoft's visual studios even v9 is a joke. Customization of even the look of RDi is a bear, you cannot share color schemes, you cannot layouts, and more. Then let us get into installing the beast. How convoluted can you get? Before we pushed IBM you had to visit a minimum of three sites to get the full install, one of which is not IBM owned. Do you still need to go to the non IBM site for license keys?

I can't really speak to any past experience with multiple web sites or
with non-IBM web sites because I didn't have that experience. I
remember WDSC 7 had CD-ROMs, and I remember downloading RDi 8.5 onward
from the Rational web page - one download from one IBM page. We bought
through Passport Advantage, so I had to go to that IBM page to get the
keys. I never used Advanced Edition or Business Developer, so maybe
that's where extra web sites came from? I never heard of having to get
IBM software from a non-IBM web site. Or are you talking about 3rd
party plugins like Quantum or iSphere? Anyway, today, it's one IBM web
site for the software and one IBM web site for the keys.

Regarding customisation; the WDSC-L list here on midrange.com is the
best place to discuss the details of that. We'd love to have another
participant! I can't speak to trying to share my RDi layout: the other
people here prefer their own!

Installation is very easy: download the trial version which loads
Installation Manager. Follow the prompts, press OK a bunch of times and
it's loaded. One might be able to order media; I've never tried that
since 8.5.
