Why on earth are they moving to AIX when SAP runs better on i? Just interested.

We've been using SAP for financials for years. It was originally on i
(iSeries as it was at that time). The corporate people decided to
move it from iSeries to pSeries. I don't know why. I'm at one of the
outlaying distribution centers so I don't count.

It's all going to be irrelevant for me in a couple of years anyway. As
an intermediate step to get all of the distribution centers on the
same software, the distribution center where I work is going to be
moved from its own billing software (RPG-based on i) to another
billing software package (also RPG-based on the same i system), but
one which is corporate-controlled.

Though I could continue to program in this corporate-controlled
software, writing custom reporting for our distribution center and
also working with the corporate people on the core shared programs,
I'm instead going to move out of programming.

There are a number of reasons for this. The main one, and also the
only one that I will discuss publicly, is that it is a part of a plan
to wind down to retirement.
