Do you need to have both of them installed to compile an RPG program

We have 7.1 installed.

I did not try to figure out what "both of them" are, but the DeveloperWorks announcement of the feature was clear, the original compiler support requires PTF SI51094. But, the latest supersede is recommended. The PTF SI51094 cover letter shows the current supersede is:

"As part of IBM i 7.1 Technology Refresh 7, a major enhancement to RPG IV is being announced: Free-form control, file-declaration, data-declaration, and procedure statements.

*Please note* : The RPG support is not physically part of TR7. You need RPG compiler PTF SI51094, or *its latest supersede*.

_PTF information_ :

• RPG Compiler support: This enhancement is available for the RPG compiler with 7.1 RPG Compiler PTF SI51094.

You can use this compiler PTF even if you don't have TR7. Programs compiled with this PTF will be able to be run on a 7.1 system that does not have either this PTF or TR7.

• SQL Precompiler support: DB2 PTF Group SF99701 level 26 is available for TR7 timed DB2 for i enhancements.

Note, TWiMC: Soon after some people started using the support, at least one issue was reported here, with the SQL pre-compiler. Thus applying the latest DB2 Group PTF, like applying the latest supersede for the ILE RPG compiler, is probably a better idea than only applying the original support that came with DB2 PTF Group SF99701 Level 26. Thus the SF99701 Level-28 noted to be currently installed satisfies that; that is apparently the latest group. The above doc link includes information to locate the latest Group PTF [even if a bit of indirection required :-( i.e. navigate to the DB2 for IBM i 2014 Group PTF Schedule, from the view of the 2013 information, or go directly via the link below:].
