I happen to like that and find it readable - but I'm used to C, where it
is more common.

It's common in tons of languages (mostly descended from or at least
influenced by C). My point is just one of sheer optics. The glyphs
are smaller and harder to distinguish. This will be compounded if you
are using a font that doesn't make them stand out; if you don't have
syntax (including operator) highlighting; if it appears in a sea of
legacy RPG code; if your eyes are not that great to begin with; etc.

I use += all the time, in both RPG and Python. But when I use it in
RPG, it's mainly because the surrounding code is either free or uses
EVAL and extended factor 2. I tend to avoid putting += into code that
is predominantly traditional format.
