What's different between the "new interface" and the old ones? Or do you
just mean a new FTP server? If so, any OS differences?

Are you calling FTP_errorMsg() after getting the -1?

My first thought would be Anti-Virus interference...or some other process
is interfering; perhaps there's a ".done" processor?

I'd suggest that's it's a bad practice to change between two end states.
You should instead have an intermediate state, ".processing" and then
rename to either .done or .error.

Our process includes renaming the remote file, too.

What does the ftp server log show for the processes that are failing?
