This is about as accurate as your "90% of RPG IV programmers are still
programming in RPG III". But just about as (ir)relevant.

When Sun came along, they created a completely new language called Java
that had the syntax of C++ but was a clean slate. It was a clean spec
language.

Clean, yes. Syntax of C++, well, let's just say C++ and Java both
clearly have strong influence from C.

I guess I am saying pretty much the same thing. Give us a clean spec
language to write modern programs. The people that are writing RPG III in
RPG IV will continue to do that no matter what you do.

You already have a clean-spec language to write modern programs with.
It's called Java. It runs on the i.

More importantly, modern programming is more a mindset than a bunch of
syntax. You can write modern programs in practically any language. I
would argue you can do so even in RPG III (though most people wouldn't
want to, because it's easier to do so in RPG IV).
