We use a custom signon screen with only the user name and password on the screen. If you have people that do need to bypass the initial programs for whatever reason, use workstation routing to move them to a subsystem with a signon screen that does allow it.

Failure to use LMTCPB(*YES) can really bite you in the butt. Because, if you don't, I can go to any 5250 screen, type in my userid, type in my password and type in qcmd for my initial program and I'm at a command line. I often do this to bypass my user profile's initial program which brings me to a menu with no command line access.

But again, this really isn't an RPG question and should be moved to the midrange-l list.
