The ORDINAL_POSITION column indicates the order of the column within the
physical table.

Where is the ordering of columns stored? I just looked at
qsys2.syscolumns and didn't see any sequencing or ordering of the
column names. Not that I would ever want to look for the 4th coumn
of a table specifically, but I have noticed that different
interfaces can display the column names in different orders.
