You may want to provide some means of bailing out if the recursion
(purposely or accidentally) gets too deep.

I might play with that.

My work around was to put an intermediate program and use the new activation
group mypgm calls mypgm2.
mypgm2 calls mypgm, which has actgrp(*new)

this may make more sense since mypgm2 could do some processing.

also mypgm is someone else's original code that was originally written with
no subprocedures and several subroutines. Doing it this way makes the jump
easier.

I am hoping that I don't have to go more than a few levels deep in
recursion.

Thank you all.

No, RPG IV does support recursion but only from V6R1 forward. Must use
Main
keyword.

h Option(*SrcStmt:*Nodebugio:*NoShowCpy:*NoUnref)
h Main(GetDrivers)

/copy *libl/qsrcf,cb_StdType
/copy *libl/qsrcf,cb_Std_Con

d GetDrivers...
d pr ExtPgm('CVTSAFMTG2')

p GetDrivers...
p b
d pi

Hi, Rob:

AFAIK, ILE RPG IV supports recursive procedures, but not recursive
(main) programs.

Depending on exactly what it is you are trying to do, you could, for
example, create a *SRVPGM with the procedure, and then call it from e.g.
a CLLE program via CALLPRC, and then it can call itself recursively.

Changing the PR by adding EXTPGM('MYPGM') prevents the compile with
RNF7545: The main procedure cannot be called from this module when it
is
an external program call.

How do I work around this?
