You'd think someone would've noticed all the dates for December 2012 (20121201, 20121202, ... 20121231) coming out as 2012-12-20...

Because for the last 12 year the last 2 digits of the year were the a
valid month. 1-12. It wouldn't have liked 2000 (month 00) either.
