Richard,

Since this is for software that my company will be selling, a 3rd-party
option isn't a go - we have to do it ourselves (even if it means
reinventing the wheel).

Hi Rory,

Vern already mentioned our iSeries Office Integrator product. We can
easily provide a plug compatible wrapper command for STRPCCMD if you are
open to commercial solutions, but you mentioned that's not an option.

Let us know if you can't find another way to resolve it and we can
definitely help you out.

It all comes down to having a valid business need with an ROI attached to
it or writing your own sockets code on the i and the PC. Time and Effort
or Dollars. It's a tradeoff :-)

Vern,

The thing is, I need to be able to get this to work exactly the same as
STRPCCMD. Basically, I can't touch the program code, so I need to have a
command called STRPCCMD (in a library higher than QSYS, obviously) which
will do the *exact* same thing as STRPCCMD...

Commercial solutions are not an option, sadly.

If you are open to a commercial offering, we have the Office
Integrator product that can be used to run commands on a PC from the
command line of the i. An app on the PC has to be run to receive the
requests - there is an enhancement that will work slightly
differently, on its way pretty soon.

Call 888.rjs.soft toll-free or email me or Richard, who is also on
these lists - or email sales.rjssoftware.com </verndor-response>

All,

Does anyone know of a way that I can emulate the behavior of STRPCCMD?

I know that STRPCCMD sends a 'hidden' screen to the emulator that
contains
some control characters, followed by the actual command to be run,
and
the
emulator then executes that command.

I have access to the 5250 data-stream but my 'emulator' (actually a
data-stream parser which displays the screen in the browser) is not
able
to
run STRPCCMD. I would like to be able to 'recognize' the hidden
screen
(easy) and then invoke some processing to execute the same
functionality
as
is executed by STRPCCMD. Is this possible, perhaps using a socket to
run
a
command on the PC?

I've posted this in the RPG400-l list as the software will most
likely be written using RPG...

Thanks,

Rory
