%subst doesn't get a chance to not like it.

D_NAMELEN is unsigned, and so is 3, so the compiler temporary to hold the value
d_namelen - 1
is also unsigned. The MCH1210 happens when assigning the value of the expression to the temporary.

If D_NAMELEN was integer, then %subst would get its chance to dislike the -2 start position, and issue RNX0100.
