Explaining it "on paper" is usually the best way to go. I have had
several epiphanies in the middle of describing the problem in an email
and never sending the email because I solved it as I described it.

Is there a common CL or menu wrapper in running these programs? Could
you devise a CL wrapper to encapsulate the data and then call the
program? I am trying to understand if these 120 programs now have a
need to share data between them or that you have a program that needs to
"glean" data from the programs that can be used across them. In other
words, how invasive does your program have to be? Is it introspective
or are you truly changing data passed between the programs?
