Thanks to everyone who replied to help me out.

If I'm going to access in RPG, I must set the date myself.

If I want DB2 to set the date, it cannot be defined in the program, so use a logical file where the date is not defined.

Or in this particular instance, I'm just going to move today's date to the field. (Hmmm, can I EVAL the date? Not if I use UDATE. I haven't tried *DATE) This part I can handle.

Now I know a little more how this stuff works. It seems like it's all or nothing.

We are planning to upgrade to V7 this summer. I am looking forward to playing around with SQL within CL to replace OPNQRYF. That will help me get my feet wet in the SQL waters.
