When XML-INTO and XML-SAX were introduced, the floodgates opened for us,
as for ideas of webservices.

The way we utilize webservices is for accessing our data, so we built a
web-application (as the portal), that makes JDBC calls to Stored
Procedures/RPG, on our iSeries.
The requests are made to the web-portal, (via a RESTful call) which then
calls the appropriate stored procedure, which are wrappers for RPG
programs.
So now, these web-services can be called from any type of front-end
device, whether it's html/javascript, tablets, phones, etc.

Now, we haven't had to make external web-service calls, but, I would
imagine Klement's Httpapi, does everything needed.

With the new opcodes XML-INTO and XML-SAX, it made processing XML
documents much easier. Has there been any new advances on the iSeries to
make processing of data to and from webservices easier? I have a couple
of small programs that create a simple SOAP document in a character string
and send it via Scott Klement’s HTTP API’s. This has worked fine for
quite awhile. Now I am being asked to look at using a new webservice that
is fairly complex in the data that is sent and received. Needless to say,
creating the SOAP document to send in a RPG program is complex and prone
to a lot of points of failure, not to mention the document returned.

Are there any tools or utilities on the iSeries that make the handling of
webservices simplier? I would prefer to have my RPG program simply handle
the outgoing and incoming data from the webservice without having to be
concerned within my program about the format of the webservice.

Thanks,
