I think he said he tends to read a file, write a record (which is a COBOL
requirement, by the way). So it must be that the file has a P appended to
the Record name.

Was this *all* the code? It seems like you've at the very least
missed one letter in your write statement. ;) If there is more that
you've left out, maybe there is something there that is contributing
to the problem.
