I may be wrong, but I was under the impression that if a field is defined as a 'Date' filed it is
always stored in *ISO format.

The datfmt just told the system what format to convert the date to when it is displayed, etc.

But if the original problem is to create a table that looks like the old dds file, and the field is not
a date field in the dds, then it probably needs to be defined as numeric and 6 positions.
That should make it look to the system the same.

But the question of needing to to recompile all the programs that us the file still has not been
addressed. The old file will have a 'File level identifier' and if it is not the same as the old file
then there should be a level check.
