Better support for local host variables might come first, before local
cursor declaration.
... but local variable support for embedded SQL is already realized with
release 6.1.

With V6.1 support of "local" files, is it reasonable to expect future
support for "local" cursors ?.
... aren't local cursors already supported or do I misunderstand what you
want?
I'm using cursors in different procedures within the same member quite often
(without any problems).
Even though I have to compile everything for V5R2 (because of some of our
clients still use V5R2).
The only prerequisite is, the cursor names (and when release V5R3 was
introduced) the host variable names must be unique within the module.
If the host variable names are unique within a member you can define and
used them the locally even before release 6.1.

As for passing cursors as parameters, why not registering the local
procedure as SQL Stored Procedure with a returning result set.
Beginning with Release 7.1 result sets can be handled with embedded SQL.

It might be reasonable to want such a thing, but I can't say whether its
reasonable to expect it. Better support for local host variables might
come first, before local cursor declaration.

And, if not, why not ?
