James,

IBM added support for unicode to the 5250 protocol at v5r2.

https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=nas1df9e25b2d745195986256dc80054bf8f

The PC5250 emulator shipped as part of System i Access for Windows
_DOES_NOT_ support Unicode. But the 5250 emulator shipped with System
i Access for Web _DOES_.

See the link I provided earlier to a presentation by Bruce Vining.

Forgive my ignorance, but multi-language is not my forte.

Actually, you probably need to code the fields as Unicode (I believe
that would be type "C" in RPG, but I'm not sure), and you would need a
terminal (or emulator) that handles Greek EBCDIC, in order to see
anything but "substitute" characters in terminal-based applications.

If there's such a thing as a Unicode 5250 data stream, I've never
encountered it, even in documentation.
