That is it. I removed this system level properties and the joblog now
showing the 32 bit version being used:

CALL BLMLDISRP
Environment to be set to MCBELL4.
Environment variable added.
CLASSPATH = /javaapps/staging/sharedResources/resources/jar/ojdbc14.jar.
Environment variable added.
JAVA_HOME = /QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk50/32bit.
Java Virtual Machine is IBM Technology for Java. PID(11834)
JVM properties were loaded from a properties file.

hhmm. I've also found this *sys and *job level environment variable:
Name . . . . . . . . . : QIBM_RPG_JAVA_PROPERTIES


Value . . . . . . . . . : '-Djava.version=1.4;'

I wonder if this superseded the JAVA_HOME....

I wonder if this is a RPG related problem. I've a RPG program that uses
Scott's JDBCR4 to perform access to Oracle database. I've set the
JAVA_HOME as below in the *INZSR:

Display Environment Var (*JOB)

Name . . . . . . . . . : JAVA_HOME


Value . . . . . . . . . : '/QOpenSys/QIBM/ProdData/JavaVM/jdk50/32bit'


But in the joblog, I'm still seeing Classic version being used:
