Dennis,

Of course, you could pass the line length and DIM values into
compressArray
- then you wouldn't monkeying with global variables, you'd just be
calling
it as e.g.:

compressArray( %addr(line) : %len(line) : %elem(line) );

Frankly, that would be quite a nice little procedure - one to add to
the ole
toolkit...
