By the time it (first) gets to you, is the file in the IFS or is it in a PF? If in IFS, I presume you also want to preserve CR and LF?
tr -cd '\12\15 0-9A-Za-z' < infile > outfile

If in PF, do you want an SQL solution, or RPG or something else?
