Since there are no invalid combinations for integer data, I suppose your only "validity test" possibility for that would be a range check, if applicable. (For example, if the value is never supposed to be greater than X or less than Y... or whatever.

For signed/packed: take a look at TESTN in the RPG reference manual. Does that help?
