I have a non-keyed view (created with CREATE VIEW) that I need to
reset the pointer to the beginning of the file each time I hit the
routine. When I use *START I get the error "RNF5319 Factor 2 operand
has a data type that is not allowed for this operation."

setll *start HOURCODER;
read HOURCODER;

What am I doing wrong?

This is probably due to the fact that HOURCODER is the Record Format name. Factor 2 <must> be the File name when using *START to position to the first record by RRN. (*START/*END can be used for keyed and non-keyed processing. They provide a more consistent syntax than the the use of *LOVAL/*HIVAL for keyed and 1/*HIVAL for non-keyed processing.)
