Pete,

Everyone's right. You have two display files -- the big full-screen one and
the (presumably) windowed prompt. The big full-screen one should be
compiled with RSTDSP(*YES). The (presumably) windowed one should have a
record in it that specifies the ASSUME keyword (you will never write this
one out, just call it DUMMY or something) and an output field. The windowed
format with your prompt in it should have the KEEP and OVERLAY keywords
specified. The effect should turn out that your window overlays your
full-screen image (you should see it behind the window) and then disappears
when your prompt program ends (it may blink).

Subject: Preserving display when calling a 'Prompt' program

I needed to add a prompt program to an existing 5250 display program. I
sorted out the function of the called program and managed to modify the
existing display program to call and display it, but when I return to
the calling program, most of the screen components are missing, having
been overwritten (presumably) by the called program display.

Seems to me that there is a way to do this but I can't remember what key
words and techniques need to be used so that when I prompt and display
the called program, the original program retains its screen display
components.

I haven't "retrofitted" a display program to do this before. What
modifications are needed in the calling program to retain the display
and is there anything I need to do in the called program to restore the
calling program display?

Thanks.
