If you are open to a commercial solution, we have a couple options. Our RPG2SQL Integrator has a CL command that exports a PF or LF to a spreadsheet. It formats columns according to the data type on the i - no leading zeroes lost in zip codes, for example. The command is built on the Excel functionality that is extensive, if you need that in the future, as well as the remote database functionality.

We also have our DataExport product, which can convert files or SELECT output to either spreadsheets or SYLK format - the latter does the column formatting by data type, as described above.

If you want to see more, feel free to contact me at vern@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx or call 888.rjs.soft and ask for me or sales.

William,

Where does the spreadsheet reside? In the iSeries' IFS or on some other server?

Also, how are you trying to refresh the data? While in Excel or are you just wanting to replace the contents of the file?

Subject: Iseries file to an Excel spreadsheet

I have posted this on the Midrange-L site with no response. I thought I would try here and see if I have better luck.
I have a file on the iseries and an Excel spreadsheet.
Spreadsheet name=open percentages.xa.2011, worksheet name=wek%2003.
I want to copy the iseries file into the spreadsheet, replacing the data in the worksheet. I have a 'DCL' with the spreadsheets name. I am having trouble replacing the spreadsheet data with the file data.
File layout: date, total orders, total items, prod due& prod due %.
Excel spreadsheet: date, total orders, total items, prod due& prod due %.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
